About Me

Dr. Ara Thomas-Brown, founder and president of Life's Journeys is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 25 years of clinical practice.
She has also partnered with collegues to provide personal and executive coaching services to individuals and groups.

Dr. Ara's academic credentials include an Ed.D in Community Mental Health Counseling and a Master of Arts, both from George Washington University, a Bachelor of Music Therapy from Loyola University of New Orleans and a Bachelor of Science degree from Xavier University of New Orleans. She has also studied at the Institute for Life Coach Training.

Among her areas of expertise are relationship issues, work-life balance, stress management, post traumatic stress, depression  and grief.

In addition to being a prominent relationship therapist, Dr. Ara has presented at National conferences and to general audiences speaking on the topics of Work-Life Balance, Dual Career Couples, Parenting Adolescents, Developing Dynamic Relationships, Professional & Personal Dynamics for Women in Leadership and the Impact of Secondary Trauma on the Families of Military and Law Enforcement Personnel.

Dr. Ara has served on the faculties of Howard, George Washington, George Mason, Marymount and Johns Hopkins Universities.

Dr. Ara is an interactive, client centered therapist. Her therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. She integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion and understanding, she works with each individual to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.
